BM, Butler University

Erin Gardiner is a music educator and violinist originally from the Toledo, Ohio area. While in Ohio, Erin taught private violin lessons and was active in various orchestras and chamber groups, fostering a love she had built early on for the community of music.

After high school, Erin went on to earn a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance and Music Education from Butler University in Indianapolis Indiana, studying with Larry Shapiro and Melanie Clapies. During this time, Erin co-founded and developed the Glass City Chamber Music Competition in Toledo, Ohio, in order to help foster a competitive and motivational young musician community in the greater Toledo area. She also continued to teach privately on both violin and viola, and taught in both intermediate and high school orchestra settings to complete her degree in music education. It was one of her students here, a Suzuki student, who inspired her to further develop her Suzuki knowledge and move forward with her training.

In pursuit of her master’s degree, Erin moved east to Hartford, Connecticut where she graduated with a degree in Violin Performance with a Suzuki pedagogy emphasis under the instruction of Dr. Katie Lansdale and Suzuki Teacher Trainer Christie Felsing. While here, Erin gained certification on violin volumes 1-8. Looking to further her development in both classroom and Suzuki settings, she also earned her Level 1 Suzuki in the Schools certification through the Buffalo-Niagara Suzuki Institute. When she’s not in her violin studio, Erin loves hiking, photography, and trying out a new local coffee shop.
