A violinist and dedicated educator, Leah Streety completed her Master of Music in Violin Performance and Suzuki Pedagogy at The Hartt School after earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Violin Performance from The University of Texas at Austin. As an active performer, she has served as Concertmaster and Principal Second Violin of the Hartt School Orchestra and she currently serves as a fellow with the New Haven Symphony Orchestra. She has also participated in masterclasses with renowned artists and ensembles including the Verona Quartet, Miro Quartet, and Bela Keys.
Alongside performing, Leah is deeply committed to music education and community engagement. She teaches violin and viola students of all ages through private instruction, Music & Arts, and The Music Shop, with a focus on individualized lesson planning and fostering confidence in young musicians. Her extensive teaching background begins with the Suzuki Violinists of Western New York; the violin studio she grew up in. She began as a practice partner and discovered her love of teaching and was guided by Executive Director, Eloisa Raffel. She continued her teaching with the String Project at UT Austin, under Dr. Laurie Scott and Dr. Ruben Balboa. Passionate about both artistry and mentorship, Leah strives to create meaningful musical experiences for students and audiences alike.
In addition to all of her performance and teaching experience, Leah remains committed to bringing diversity into the classical music world. A part of the Suzuki Philosophy is “every child can,” meaning any child regardless of their economic or racial status, can develop the ability to learn and play music at a high level. Leah will continue to bring equitable education by giving discounted or free lessons in her spare time.
