A native of Kansas, artist-teacher Amy Schumann Griswold received her M.M. in Violin Performance from Ithaca College (2013) and a B.M. in Violin Performance from Wichita State University (2010).

Since 2012, Ms. Griswold has served as a full-time faculty member at the Suzuki Music Schools of Westport and Orange in Fairfield County, Connecticut, where she maintains a large private studio of 40+ students and instructs nine weekly group classes.  Her students participate regularly in community outreach concerts, summer institutes/festivals, solo recitals, and youth orchestras.  In 2014-2015, performers from her studio earned top prizes at the Connecticut State Teachers Association Festival Audition and served as Concertmaster and Principal Second Violin in the Norwalk Youth Symphony.  Additionally, Ms. Griswold also teaches for the non-profit organization K.E.Y.S. (Kids Empowered by Your Support) of Bridgeport, CT, which provides lessons and instruments for students residing in an underserved urban school district.

In 2015, Ms. Griswold joined the violin faculty of Interlochen Center for the Arts for the Summer Arts Camp.  At Interlochen she taught violin lessons, coached chamber music, led orchestra sectionals, co-led violin masterclasses, and performed on faculty recitals.  In March 2015, she served as Guest Clinician for Suzuki Day at the Music School of Delaware.  In 2013 she was a Visiting Guest Artist at Kentucky Christian University, performing solo works and with the Vistamente Trio.  In 2012, Ms. Griswold taught chamber music, music theory, and music history courses in the Pre-College Division at the Ithaca College Summer Music Academy.

An active chamber musician and advocate of new music, Ms. Griswold has collaborated with and premiered new works by composers Andrew Martin Smith, Jesse Benjamin Jones, Liza Sobel, and Matt Aelmore.  She performs with Dr. Rafael Videira (Viola) and Sven Rainey (Guitar) as part of the SMSW Faculty Trio on the Pillow Chamber Music Concert Series.  Since 2007, she and her husband, clarinetist Terrance Griswold, have performed in the Vistamente Trio (Violin, Clarinet, and Piano), covering a substantial portion of that trio repertoire.

As an orchestral violinist, Amy has performed professionally with the New Jersey Verismo Opera; Tri-Cities Opera; Binghamton Philharmonic; Keene Chamber Orchestra; Catskill Choral Society Orchestra; New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players; Wichita Grand Opera; Opera Kansas Orchestra; and off-off Broadway venues in New York City.  She has participated in numerous summer festivals including the Promisek Bach Workshop, the Pierre Monteux School, Brevard Music Center, and Eastern Music Festival.

Her teachers include Dr. Katie Lansdale (Violin), The Hartt School of Music; Susan Waterbury (Violin) and Sanford Reuning (Suzuki Pedagogy), Ithaca College; Nancy Luttrell (Violin) and Catherine Consiglio (Viola), Wichita State University.  Ms. Schumann-Griswold was awarded a Graduate Teaching Assistantship to Ithaca College where she instructed string methods courses, supervised undergraduate music education student teachers at St. Mary’s Parochial School in Cortland, NY, and was graduate teaching assistant to Prof. Susan Waterbury.  Additionally, Amy completed Suzuki Association of the Americas teacher training for Books 1-4 and a Graduate Teaching Practicum of Books 5-7 with Sanford Reuning at the Ithaca Talent Education Suzuki School of Ithaca, NY.  She also studied String Pedagogy with former American String Teachers Association president Jacquelyn Dillon-Krauss, co-author of the Strictly Strings series for public school string orchestras.
