Early Childhood Classes lie at the very heart of the Suzuki School as they are a fun and creative way to introduce your child to music, with each activity intentionally designed to prepare your child for the future transition into private instrumental lessons in the Suzuki curriculum. If your child is younger than five years old, we recommend you enroll in one of the Suzuki ECE classes based on your child’s age.
For more information please contact Leslie Waddell, Director of Early Childhood Education, at leslie.w@suzukischools.org or by filling out our contact form below.
“Learn with Love!” ….. Dr. Suzuki believed that in a loving environment, a child can learn anything. Parent and child participate together in a weekly interactive music class where parents enjoy watching their babies develop rhythmic and melodic awareness, memory and social skills. Teachers work with parents to build a repertoire of lullabies, action songs, nursery rhymes and Suzuki repertoire. Parents become expert observers of their own children. Children watch the actions of the parent and gradually begin to imitate them. This process is one to be enjoyed and celebrated as each new development is observed — just as you do when your baby utters those first few words. With each semester, the child’s mastery level increases, leading to higher skill levels in every area of development. The outcomes of these activities include increased vocabulary, socially acceptable behavior, sensitive group participation, and the most important skill for children at an early age – the ability to listen and enjoy the beauty of music in community.

“It is in our power to educate all the children of the world to become a little better as people, a little happier.”
~Dr. Shinichi Suzuki
The Jump Start class celebrates the quality and potential offered in a mixed age environment. Learning not only skills, but also experiencing the joy and community of family and friends, infants, toddlers and pre-schoolers continue to lay the foundation for a happy love of music. Through movement, play, instruments, sign language, focused listening and group dances, you and your child will experience music as a foundation for language, empathy, community, learning, self-awareness, and physical development.
40-45 min; classes ongoing (enroll anytime; payment by semester–tuition shown on registration page is the updated, pro-rated amount).

This parent-child class is ideal as an introduction to Suzuki instrumental lessons and is an excellent opportunity to work together with the teacher to help determine which instrument your child would like to pursue. Using the Suzuki repertoire, the children will learn and continue to review basic musical concepts such as steady beat and pitch, as well as be introduced to the Suzuki rhythms shared by all the instruments. Over the course of a semester, each instrument offered here at the Suzuki Schools will be presented for a live, hands-on demonstration.
